How can we translate the historical transaction record in WMS into team development plan?
It is undeniable that team management is unavoidable for any warehouse management. As the team leader who is responsible for the productivity result of the entire team, the individual performance management of the team members is also important and challenging. The highly effective team consists of highly effective team members which can operate at a high speed and without a mistake. Would it be better if the team leader could use the historical record of the performance of staff individually? This information can be converted into the performance development plan for your subordinate effectively and without a bias for result evaluation.
To define an individual performance, starting from the record of transaction in Warehouse Management System (WMS). Each member of staff must have their own log-in user for the tracking purpose. The transaction with user ID can be recorded and used for analysis. The sample of warehouse activities to be tracked such as put-away, picking and palletizing.
After the information can be gathered, the team leader can convert the transaction into the individual performance on an hourly or daily basis. The staff performance ranking can be done followed by a reward or incentive for highly performed staff. In terms of staff performance development, the operating technique sharing session from high performance staff can be done to elevate the overall team performance. The buddy training method between high performance staff and new staff as a part of staff orientation is also a good idea. Moreover, there is the psychological effect on the staff to be more focused and enthusiasm after they realize that their individual performance is now tracked.
In terms of the performance communicated among teams, the real-time dashboard from WMS data can be done. The dashboard consists of the team goal, their individual goal including the current progress compared to the goal. For the company which cannot afford to do the system-dashboard integration, the manual export data (1-2 times/day) with daily communication with team members also produces a positive effect for the overall team productivity.
In terms of the annual staff performance evaluation, the historical performance in an individual form can be used also. An actual performance comparing to the KPI or the set goal/target (can be in the percentage form) is one of the efficient methods from the data driven method of the result evaluation and bias free.
