Typhoon in China may affect shipping times!!!
Typhoon Bebinca is tracking northwestward across the East China Sea, moving away from the Amami Islands, Japan, as of early Sept. 15, after making landfall over southern Amami Oshima on Sept. 14. As of 03:00 JST, the center of the system was approximately 685 km (426 miles) east-southeast of Shanghai, China. Bebinca is expected to weaken into a tropical storm as it tracks northwestward across southern Jiangsu Province on Sept. 16, before downgrading to a tropical depression over Anhui Province by early Sept. 17, and eventually dissipating over far southeastern Henan Province by early Sept. 18. There remains some uncertainty in the forecast regarding the storm's track and intensity, with potential changes in the coming days. The inclement weather has already had a significant impact on business and transportation, particularly affecting port and airport operations.
Typhoon Bebinca’s disruption to the supply chain will likely have long-term effects, especially during this critical period for shipments heading to the West. With congestion in sea freight already an issue, the closure of key ports like Xiamen and Ningbo due to the storm is expected to worsen delays. Moreover, the adverse weather has strained air and land logistics, as flights and trains have also been disrupted.
As we approach the winter holiday season in the West, a time marked by increased shipment demand, these disruptions caused by Bebinca could lead to backlogs that stretch into the final months of 2024. Importers and businesses dependent on timely deliveries may need to reassess their logistics strategies or consider alternative transportation routes to minimize the impact of these delays.
